In November 2008, I was hired by Infoquest Limited to build a Health Care Facilities Data Reporting Spreadsheet Software

Project Background: Questionnaire surveys had been conducted nationwide in various health care facilities across the country and the responses posted into a MYSQL database which was then linked to a web based interface that could be queried for information via a browser.

The problem was that this interface was limited in the flexibility and level of report generation detail it allowed.

Infoquest was challenged by its client to find a better way to manipulate the survey data for useful data analysis/report generation towards decision making to be enhanced. This led the MD of Infoquest to call me in.

UPDATE: Late September 2009, Infoquest re-engaged me to add a clickable Nigerian map to the database application, which allows the user click the name of a STATE to get data for that state extracted for manipulation based on other parameters. A notable addition is the automatic display of the graph of the clicked state, next to the country map PLUS a listing of ALL Local Government Areas. Work continues even now, as the project continues to evolve. This led the MD of Infoquest to call me in.

WHAT WAS DONE:

1. All the mySQL survey data were exported for each state into individual MS Excel worksheets.

2. I built an automated Excel spreadsheet application which had ONE worksheet as a database into which data from ALL the different states was transferred.

In this video, I start by showing you the user guide notes page for the application. Then I move to the worksheet containing the source data for all the states in the worksheet named "Facilities Records Dbase".

Then I will go to the worksheet named "Stat Sum HF Type By Ward" which is the page where the program will extract data from the " " to generate "Statistical Summary of Health Facilities Type By Ward". The program also auto-highlights rows of records in which data is NOT available.

The purpose here is to show you how Excel can be automated to make extensive and complex report generation possible using the same source data.

Note that the program on its own continues generating the data summaries by state, LGA and ward based on selections you make within minutes.

This application saved them from generating the same reports manually, in a process that would have taken DAYS, weeks even.

The program also does the following:

a. Generates statistical summaries for Type Of Facility at Zone/State; State/LGA and LGA/Ward levels.

b. Generates statistical summaries for Available Manpower at Zone/State; State/LGA and LGA/Ward levels.

c. Generates FULL details form display for chosen facility showing: FACILITY DESCRIPTION, INFRASTRUCTURE, MANPOWER and SERVICE CATEGORIES.

d. Shows totals at the top of each statistical summaries report page.

e. Automates statistical summaries preparation to happen with single click.

f. Identifies ward(s) NOT listed in INEC working list using "NIIWL" phrase and colouring the ward(s) name(s) in the report.
